Norwich Dismiss Spygate Links Amid Ongoing Investigation

Norwich City have confirmed they are not involved in the Spygate scandal surrounding Middlesbrough and Southampton, focusing instead on their upcoming season preparations.

Norwich City not involved in Spygate claims

Norwich City have confirmed they are not involved in the ongoing Spygate scandal surrounding Middlesbrough and Southampton, despite social media speculation. The club is leaving the matter to the authorities and focusing on preparations for the upcoming season.

Like most Championship clubs, Norwich are keen to see whether the alleged wrongdoing was an isolated incident or part of a wider pattern. However, there is no evidence linking City to the case.

Spygate scandal details and EFL investigation

The controversy began when a member of Southampton’s analysis team was allegedly caught filming a Middlesbrough training session at Rockliffe Park before their play-off semi-final first leg. The EFL has charged Southampton with breaching regulations that ban clubs from observing opponents’ training within 72 hours of a match.

Southampton progressed to the play-off final after a 2-1 aggregate win over Middlesbrough and are set to face Hull City for a Premier League spot. However, an independent commission is due to rule on the case in the coming days, with possible punishments ranging from a fine to expulsion from the play-offs.

The EFL has confirmed the play-off final date could be delayed depending on the investigation’s outcome.

Reports of other clubs’ involvement clarified

National media have reported that other Championship clubs are assisting Middlesbrough’s case by providing evidence. Some reports suggested one club suspected being spied on after a managerial change, with speculation pointing towards Norwich City.

According to The Pink'un, Norwich are not the club involved. City’s results against Southampton this season include a 2-1 home win in December and a 1-0 defeat at St Mary’s in March during Dean Clements’ tenure as head coach.
