Gunn, who was a huge fan favourite at Carrow Road in two senior spells, will wear the number one shirt after the Scots revealed their squad list numbers ahead of their first World Cup finals appearance in 28 years.

Scotland's Goalkeeping Situation Explained

The 30-year-old started the first four of Scotland's six qualifiers last autumn, with 43-year-old Hearts keeper Craig Gordon stepping in for the last two games against Greece and Denmark after sustaining an injury of his own.

Gunn has made just one senior appearance for Nottingham Forest all season, while Gordon played only three games for the Jambos.

Tartan Army head coach Steve Clarke indicated Gunn will start this Saturday's friendly against Bolivia, and the keeper now appears to be in pole position to retain his place for the World Cup opener against Haiti on June 14 (UK time).

Injury Woes for Scotland's Squad

Gordon, who started last weekend's 4-1 win over Curacao at Hampden, has been given the number 21.

Canaries player-of-the-year, Kenny McLean, retains the 23 shirt number for his country he has worn since his arrival at Carrow Road in 2018.

Former City title-winning captain Grant Hanley is number five, but one-time Norwich loanee Billy Gilmour has missed out through injury.

The 24-year-old, who endured an unhappy spell at Carrow Road in the 2021/22 Premier League season, was forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad on the eve of flying to America after sustaining a knee problem in the first half of Saturday's warm-up match against Curacao.

Gilmour expressed his disappointment on Instagram, stating, "Being so close to a childhood dream of mine, to play in a World Cup and now it has been taken away from me with an injury. It's been a tough one to get my head around."

He added, "Your support and kind messages over the last few days mean the world to me and haven't gone unnoticed, so thank you so much. I'll see you all back doing what I love again soon but until then, let's get behind the team and cheer them on. Come on Scotland!"
