Pep Lijnders, the former assistant manager at Liverpool, is reportedly in line to interview for the managerial position at Norwich City, following the club's decision to part ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup.
According to a report from the Telegraph, Norwich City are keen to appoint a new manager to rejuvenate the squad following Hoff Thorup's exit. Lijnders is expected to be interviewed in the coming days as the club prepare for the new Championship season.
Lijnders played a crucial role in Liverpool's recent successes, including triumphs in the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup. However, his time at Salzburg was marked by disappointment, culminating in his dismissal midway through the season as the team struggled in both the Austrian Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League.
While Lijnders has an impressive record as an assistant, his managerial career has encountered obstacles. His previous role at NEC Nijmegen ended in disappointment, with the club terminating his contract in May 2018.
Liverpool's former manager, Jürgen Klopp, has consistently praised Lijnders for his contributions, describing him as "the most influential guy in the last years at this club." Klopp acknowledged the exceptional work Lijnders accomplished and the motivation he provided to both players and coaching staff.
Arne Slot, who previously approached Lijnders after Liverpool's Carabao Cup success, has highlighted the importance of the academy to him personally. "That for the whole club, but definitely also for him, it was a big moment," Slot remarked, reflecting on the pride associated with witnessing academy graduates excel on a prominent stage.
