Norwich City Football Club have confirmed the departure of Jack Wilshere, who took charge as interim head coach for the final matches of the season. His tenure included a goalless draw against Middlesbrough and an impressive 4-2 victory over Cardiff City at Carrow Road.
The club have opted not to retain Wilshere for the permanent managerial position, choosing instead to seek an external candidate to succeed Johannes Hoff Thorup, who was dismissed in April. At just 33 years old, Wilshere joined Norwich’s coaching staff in October 2024 after a stint managing Arsenal's under-18 team.
“Jack made a significant impact during his time with us,” said Norwich's sporting director, Ben Knapper, who has known Wilshere since their days at Arsenal. “He built excellent connections with our players and staff, and we are all saddened to see him move on. We are grateful for his willingness to step in as interim head coach for the final two games of the season, but we respect his desire to explore opportunities elsewhere.”
In a heartfelt message on social media, Wilshere expressed his gratitude for his time at Norwich. “I can confirm that I have today left Norwich City in order to pursue my own career as a head coach. I’d like to thank everyone at Norwich for the opportunity to continue my coaching journey with you all. I’ve loved every minute of my time at the club, and I wish you all the very best for the future.”
As Norwich City continue the search for a new manager, the club has indicated a careful approach to ensure the right fit. Reports suggest that an announcement regarding the new appointment could come as early as next week. The club aims to build on the foundations laid during Wilshere's brief stewardship, which has left a positive impression on the squad.
