James Morrison urges new deal for Harry Whitwell
West Brom head coach James Morrison has confirmed the club’s intention to secure Harry Whitwell on a new contract amid reported interest from Norwich City. The 20-year-old forward, who impressed during a loan spell at Forest Green Rovers last season, has established himself in West Brom’s first team this campaign.
Whitwell scored his first league goal for the Baggies in their 3-1 win over Burnley last Sunday, levelling the game at 1-1 before West Brom went on to claim all three points. Morrison said, “We’re all keen, as a club, to get it nailed down. And I’m sure the club are working hard behind the scenes to get that done.”
The manager praised Whitwell’s work ethic and progress, adding, “[His opportunity] is fully deserved through his hard work.” Morrison also highlighted the player’s attributes fitting the team’s style and stressed the importance of maintaining his focus to continue earning chances.
West Brom push contract talks as Norwich circle
According to The72, Football League World, West Brom are actively working to extend Whitwell’s contract, which expires next summer. The club are aware of Norwich City’s interest and want to avoid losing the academy graduate to a direct Championship rival.
Whitwell has made three appearances this season across all competitions, scoring twice, and has been a key figure in West Brom’s strong start under Morrison, who has led the team to two league wins including the victory over Norwich City.
The Oxford-born forward has been with West Brom since his youth, signing his first professional contract in 2022 and an extension last year. He made his first-team debut in 2024 and has since accumulated 11 appearances before his loan to Forest Green Rovers, where he gained valuable experience.
With the transfer window closing on 1 September, West Brom face pressure to finalise Whitwell’s future quickly to prevent losing him to Norwich or another Championship side.
