Norwich Secure Amass Loan as Defensive Reinforcement

Norwich City have completed the loan signing of Harry Amass from Manchester United, enhancing their defensive options for the remainder of the season.

Norwich City have officially secured the loan signing of Harry Amass from Manchester United, bolstering their defensive options as they gear up for the remainder of the season. The 18-year-old left-back joins the Canaries on a loan deal that will run until the end of the current campaign, marking him as the club's second signing of the January transfer window. He follows Canadian international winger Ali Ahmed, who arrived from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.

Reports from The Pink'un indicate that Norwich successfully navigated competition from several Championship rivals, including Stoke City and Watford, to bring Amass to Carrow Road. The promising young defender will don the number two shirt and has expressed his excitement about the move, stating, “I’ve spoken with Ben (Knapper) and the gaffer. They’ve both told me that they’ve been watching me since Sheffield Wednesday and a bit before that, and they’ve liked what they’ve seen. They like the way that I carry the ball, the way that I am on the ball, the hard work that I show. They spoke to me and said they see that I can do good things here; they believe that it’ll be a benefit for the club and for me, so it should be good both ways.” Read more about Sargent Targets Toronto Move as Norwich Future Uncertain.

Ben Knapper, Norwich's sporting director, shared his enthusiasm for Amass's arrival, saying, “We’re delighted to welcome Harry to the football club. Whilst still in the very early stages of his journey in the professional game, his talent was evident for all to see during the first half of the season throughout an impressive loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.” Knapper further emphasised Amass's readiness to compete at this level, noting, “He has shown he is clearly ready to compete, and excel, at this level, and he’ll add quality and strengthen the left-back position for us. He’s fit and ready to go, and we’re looking forward to him helping the group and contributing to moving the club up the table for the remainder of the season.” Read more about Coventry Welcome Back Key Duo Ahead of Norwich Clash.

Amass arrives with valuable experience from his recent loan at Sheffield Wednesday, where he made 22 appearances before returning to Manchester United earlier this month. Having started his career at Watford, he made the switch to United in 2023 and made his senior debut in April 2025, playing a significant role under manager Ruben Amorim prior to his time with the Owls.

Norwich's need for a left-back has intensified due to injuries affecting both Lucien Mahovo and Jeffery Schlupp, leaving Ben Chrisene as the only fully fit senior player in that position. With Amass now joining the squad, Norwich City supporters are optimistic that his addition will enhance the team's efforts to climb the Championship table in the coming months.
