Norwich City have made a notable advancement in their transfer strategy by finalising a £7 million deal for Czech winger Matej Jurasek from Slavia Prague. According to reports from The Pink'un, the agreement includes various performance-related bonuses and additional clauses, with both clubs expressing optimism about the successful completion of the transfer.
Initially, Norwich's offer of approximately £4 million plus add-ons was turned down by Slavia Prague. However, following constructive discussions, the Canaries resumed negotiations, ultimately reaching a financial consensus. With the deal now in place, attention turns to finalising personal terms and arranging a medical examination for Jurasek. Early indications suggest that discussions with the player's representatives are progressing well, paving the way for a smooth conclusion to the transfer process.
This acquisition marks Norwich's second signing of the January transfer window, following the recent loan of Lewis Dobbin from Aston Villa. Additionally, the club is close to securing a permanent deal for Anis Ben Slimane, having activated a £1.2 million clause in his loan agreement from Sheffield United.
Jurasek's potential move to Norwich was first reported by Czech media during the Christmas period, prompting the Canaries to send scouts to observe his performance in a Europa League match against Anderlecht earlier this month. The left-footed winger, who primarily operates on the right flank, has been with Slavia Prague since his youth career began at Carvina and made his senior debut in November 2020. He is contracted to the club until 2027, indicating Norwich's intent to invest in a player with long-term potential.
Norwich's head coach, Thorup, elaborated on the club's rationale for pursuing a winger, particularly in light of Ashley Barnes' recent departure. "We are looking at players in the frontline, and it can still be a winger - but we are looking at adding offensive players to the team," he stated. Thorup further emphasised the importance of strategic planning, noting, "Going back to the strategy, that needs to be a player that we bring in on a long contract so a player where he can get used to the country and the league within six months and then be a starting and good player for us after the summer."
The head coach also highlighted the significance of making the right choice in player recruitment, asserting, "We are looking for players, and if the right option is there - then we are ready to execute, but we don't do anything just to do it." This measured approach underscores Norwich's commitment to building a competitive squad as they navigate the challenges of the current season, with the addition of Jurasek poised to enhance their attacking options.
