Mundle-Smith Shines as Norwich Down Leicester 2-0

Norwich City secured a 2-0 victory over Leicester City, with 19-year-old Errol Mundle-Smith playing a crucial role in the win at the King Power Stadium.

Norwich City delivered an impressive performance at the King Power Stadium, securing a 2-0 victory against Leicester City. The match saw 19-year-old Errol Mundle-Smith, a promising academy graduate, take centre stage following his substitution for Mathias Kvistgaarden. Mundle-Smith's contribution was pivotal, particularly with his involvement in Ali Ahmed’s decisive goal.

Displaying remarkable instinct, Mundle-Smith reacted swiftly to a blocked cross from Kellen Fisher. He expertly swivelled to unleash a deflected shot that fell into the path of Ahmed at the back post. Norwich head coach Philippe Clement praised the young forward, stating, “Errol, who's normally a winger, has no experience in the Championship, and he does the role really well for the team. Those are the nice moments. I'm happy for him, because he's been working really hard. It's just the start of his career.”

Clement also discussed the youthful composition of his squad, noting, “We have a lot of young guys, by far the youngest squad in the Championship. There are a lot of stories starting in Norwich, and I'm really curious where the stories will end in a few years, or in 10 or 15 years.” Read more about Norwich Stun Leicester to Deepen Foxes' Relegation Woes.

This victory marked Norwich's fifth away win of the season, a statistic that brought Clement great satisfaction. After the final whistle, he was unexpectedly leading the away supporters in celebration, saying, “I don’t like that part too much (being the centre of attention), you know, but Kenny tricked me,” in reference to captain Kenny McLean's antics.

Clement highlighted the significant transformation within the squad over recent months, attributing this to the dedication of both players and staff. “It's a big difference with three months ago. That's clear for everybody, but that's also because of the work of everybody, from the players, but also all my staff really working very hard every day to go into all the details with the players,” he explained.

Ahmed, who netted the opening goal with a powerful strike, took pride in the team’s performance, especially in light of the ongoing injury crisis that has sidelined 14 senior players. “That's a really, really complete performance from everybody from minute one,” he remarked. “It was not one of those games where we started off slow. We came out and didn't give them anything.”

The winger also emphasised the importance of a strong start, noting that the team's mentality had significantly improved compared to previous matches. “The start of matches has been important for us, and we came out in the first 15 and set the tone. When we come out like that, the belief we have, it’s tough for teams to stop,” he added.

With this victory, Norwich City continues to build on their current momentum. The combination of youthful energy and strategic discipline under Clement is proving effective, demonstrating that the Canaries can compete robustly, regardless of the challenges they face.
