Mattsson Targets Continued Growth as Canaries Strive for Success

Pelle Mattsson reflects on his rise at Norwich City, crediting hard work and team spirit for his recent performances amid the club's Championship challenges.

Pelle Mattsson has quickly established himself as a fan favourite among Norwich City supporters, thanks to his tenacious midfield play and high-energy performances. The Danish midfielder acknowledges that his recent form represents just the beginning of his journey at Carrow Road.

Since Philippe Clement took charge in November, Norwich City have shown signs of improvement in the Championship. Mattsson's resurgence has coincided with this managerial change, leading some to credit his strong performances to Clement's influence. However, the 24-year-old remains focused on his personal development, attributing his progress to self-accountability rather than solely the new tactics being implemented. "I always look at myself first. I don't blame the former coach or the new coach. It's all about myself, and I know that in the first weeks that I was here, it wasn't good enough, and that is only on my side," Mattsson reflected candidly. "I just worked hard and know what I'm capable of. I continue to do my best, and the last couple of weeks have been good performances for me. That's what I'm aiming for. I could see I could do better."

While acknowledging his improved performances, Mattsson is careful not to become complacent. "It's been better than my first weeks in the club, but I'm just trying to do my best. You always get happier when you play better, but it's about the team. I'm not really thinking long-term or have any long-term goals. I'm really just thinking about the present and being in the moment."

His dedication to the team's success is evident in his daily routine. "Every day I do my 110% each day and then in the end, I think I'll get better as a footballer. That's how I think, and that's also how I approach life."

Mattsson is part of a group of summer signings whose performances have drawn admiration, even inspiring new chants from the fans at Carrow Road. His contributions reflect the ongoing efforts at Norwich, despite a recent setback in the form of a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Stoke, which has placed the club in the Championship relegation zone. "I can hear my name being shouted," he said, a smile evident in his voice. "So that's good. I love the connection between the fans and the players. So, of course, why wouldn't you like that? I think it's about wins, results and performances actually. The support has been good the last couple of weeks. There's a unity there that we need to continue on, but it doesn't stop here. We need to continue to grow the unity we have."

As Norwich City strive to ascend the league table, Mattsson’s determination and relentless work ethic will be vital in their pursuit of improved results. His focus on the present, combined with the strengthening bond between players and fans, may prove to be essential elements for a successful turnaround this season.
