Mitchell Dijks Reflects on Vietnam Experience
Mitchell Dijks has expressed relief at returning to Europe after a challenging stint with Vietnamese club Nam Dinh, which he described as detrimental to his career. The Dutch defender, who previously played for Norwich City, signed a two-year contract but faced significant issues due to an administrative error that prevented him from being registered to play in the league.
Career Setbacks and Personal Growth
During his time in Vietnam, Dijks managed only nine appearances, which included four in the Shopee Cup and five in the AFC Champions League Two. He recounted the frustration of being unregistered, stating, "It was just very bad for my career." The lack of regular matches disrupted his rhythm, leading to tough days on the training pitch.
Despite the difficulties, Dijks acknowledged that the experience contributed to his personal development. He learned to set boundaries and gained self-confidence while navigating life in a foreign country.
Future Aspirations in Spain
Now a free agent, Dijks is on trial with Spanish Segunda side CD Eldense, aiming to regain his fitness. He expressed a desire to continue playing, stating, "Quitting? No. I want to get everything I can out of my career." While he has received interest from clubs in Thailand and Dubai, he prefers to stay in Spain, where he feels at home.
