Several players within the Norwich City squad are also observing Ramadan, necessitating adjustments to their routines, particularly regarding energy management. While regulations permit Ahmed to break his fast during away fixtures, he opts to maintain his fast for home games and training sessions, refraining from food and drink throughout daylight hours.

Following Norwich’s impressive 2-1 victory against Leicester City—where Ahmed found the net—he shared insights into how he balances the dual demands of Ramadan and elite football. “There’s been a lot of communication with the coaching, nutrition and medical staff. Me, Anis, Toure, obviously, and Errol are all doing it,” he explained.

He acknowledged the challenges but noted his familiarity with them: “Of course it’s a challenge, but I’ve been doing it for the last three, four years, so I think I’m kind of used to it. We all know how important nutrition is to fuel your body in high-level games like this.”

Ahmed also highlighted the mental benefits of Ramadan, suggesting that “when you have that mental and spiritual connection, you’re feeling more mental power.” He believes this spiritual aspect can help alleviate some of the nutritional challenges associated with fasting. “For away games, I didn’t observe fast, but home games I’ll be fasting. It’s a challenge, but I don’t think it’s something that’s too new for me to do,” he added.

Transitioning into the Championship has posed its own set of hurdles for Ahmed, but he expresses enjoyment in the experience. “I don’t want to lie and say that I’m used to it and I’ve been used to it, but for sure it’s something new. But honestly, I’m enjoying it. I like it,” he remarked.

The demands of playing every three days invigorate Ahmed, who views the hectic schedule as an opportunity rather than an obligation. “This is what we dream of, and we love to do,” he emphasised. “It’s all about perspective as well. The way you look at it, as long as you have a perspective of just trying to enjoy it and appreciate it, and if your energy is there, then your body will follow.”

As Ahmed continues to excel in Norwich City’s colours, his resilience and determination embody the spirit of the club as they pursue their Championship ambitions.
