Mohamed Toure is flourishing at Norwich City, crediting much of his rapid progress to manager Philippe Clement, whom he sees as a pivotal figure in his development. The Australian international has made a striking impact at Carrow Road, netting five goals in his first four appearances, including a stunning hat-trick against Oxford earlier this month. Toure joined Norwich from Danish club Randers for an initial transfer fee of £2.6 million. His transition to the Championship has been expedited by injuries to teammates Jovon Makama and the anticipated transfer of Josh Sargent to Toronto FC. The 21-year-old is acutely aware of this opportunity to demonstrate his talents at a higher level.
Clement has expressed his confidence in Toure as a key component of the club's future. The striker shares this belief, recognising Clement as the ideal mentor for his ambitions. “Every day I’m learning,” Toure remarked, reflecting on the differences between leagues. “It’s very physical, of course, like everyone says. I feel like with Philippe, he’s brought me in to do a job that he believes I can do. Day by day, I’m just learning with him.” Read more about McLean Addresses Sargent's Departure as Canaries Move On.
Adapting quickly to the Championship's demanding nature, Toure noted, “We have a lot of quality players I play against, but I also play with very, very quality players, so it makes my job easier to score goals.” His confidence is bolstered by the competitive environment fostered by his teammates.
Toure appreciates Clement's rigorous coaching style, stating, “People say he was intense and hard on players — there’s a difference between being hard and mean, and hard where you want someone to improve. I think he’s more of the positive hard. When he’s hard on you, that’s what you want as a young player, especially when you want to improve. You look for coaches like this, and you pray that you get coaches like this.”
Reflecting on his decision to move to Norwich, Toure expressed satisfaction with his choice, saying, “From the first day, I just felt that mentality and I felt like I was in a very good place. I’m very happy with the decision that I made. With him, we can achieve a lot of great things.” Read more about Tavares Set for Barcelona Move After Medical Success.
While Toure's immediate focus is on helping Norwich secure their Championship status, he also harbours ambitions of representing Australia at the upcoming World Cup. “It’s my country and hopefully I’m going to play the biggest football tournament there is. It’s something that’s been on my mind since the last World Cup. It’s been a goal of mine and hopefully I can keep playing well and I can go and achieve it,” he commented.
Toure’s aspirations align with the collective goals of a Norwich City side eager to bounce back following a recent defeat at home to Birmingham City. With Toure in fine form and Clement’s leadership, there is a growing sense of optimism at Carrow Road as the Canaries prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
