Toure Targets Asian Cup Return After Injury Setback

Mo Toure is on track for a return to action as he recovers from a shoulder injury, aiming to feature for Australia in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

Mo Toure targets Asian Cup return

Mo Toure is progressing well in his recovery from a shoulder injury sustained in Norwich City's 4-3 defeat to Bolton Wanderers in mid-September. The striker underwent surgery after dislocating his shoulder and damaging the socket, requiring screws to stabilise it.

Currently back in Australia for rehabilitation, Toure is aiming to be fit for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, which starts on January 7 in Saudi Arabia. He told 10SportAU, "It is possible to be back for the Asian Cup; I think so. I've been talking to the physios, and I've been working extra just to come back early in general."

Norwich manager Philippe Clement had indicated Toure would return to club action early next year, but the striker could feature for Australia before resuming duties with the Canaries.

Toure’s injury setback after strong start

Toure’s injury halted a promising start to the Championship season, where he scored five goals in seven appearances. That took his Norwich tally to 16 goals and four assists in just 21 games since joining from Randers FC last winter for £2.6m.

His form attracted interest from clubs including Hull City, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Galatasaray and Trabzonspor over the summer, according to The Pink'un.

Despite the attention, Toure remains focused on recovery and Norwich’s promotion push. "I need to get back and start playing, get fit, and then promotion with Norwich is my number one dream," he said.

Toure committed to Norwich promotion dream

While Toure admits he has ambitions to play at the highest level in Europe, his current priority is Norwich City. "I really enjoy playing for Norwich, and I feel like the longer I’m there, the better I will get," he said.

He added, "Like I always say, if any player is to say that they don’t have dreams to play for the biggest clubs in Europe, I think they would be lying. Everyone has those dreams."

For now, Toure is working towards a return by the end of December or early January, with the club’s support allowing him to complete rehab in Australia. Norwich fans will be hoping to see their young striker back leading the line soon.
