Norwich City’s summer transfer window has taken an unexpected twist, with reports indicating that the anticipated transfer of forward Josh Sargent to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg may not materialise. Initially, Sargent’s departure seemed imminent following his impressive 15-goal season, but recent developments have cast doubt on the potential move.
Sargent’s expected exit gained momentum after the transfer of his former strike partner, Borja Sainz, to Porto. Sainz concluded last season as the Championship’s second-highest scorer with 18 goals, setting the stage for Sargent to potentially follow suit. Talks regarding a £21 million transfer to Wolfsburg had intensified, but according to a report from the German publication Wolfsburger Allgemeine, the Bundesliga club has now opted to withdraw from negotiations.
The publication revealed that Norwich's asking price, described as "well over £20 million," was considered excessive by Wolfsburg, particularly after they had previously submitted an improved offer of approximately £19 million, which was rejected. This disparity in valuation ultimately led Wolfsburg to reconsider their pursuit of Sargent.
While Burnley are also reportedly interested in Sargent, it remains uncertain whether they will resume their pursuit.
