Norwich City’s Vicente Reyes has officially joined Peterborough United on loan until January, marking a significant step in his development and reflecting the ongoing adjustments within Norwich's goalkeeping ranks.
The young goalkeeper, who made three appearances in the Championship last season, returns to League One for the second consecutive year after spending the first half of the 2024-25 campaign with Cambridge United. This latest move follows Norwich's summer recruitment drive, which saw the arrivals of goalkeepers Vladan Kovacevic, Daniel Grimshaw, and Louie Moulden, resulting in Reyes slipping down the selection hierarchy.
Reyes has signed a four-month loan deal with Peterborough, who are seeking stability in their goalkeeping department. Darragh McAnthony, the owner of Peterborough, announced Reyes’ arrival on social media, stating, "A big welcome to goalkeeper Vicente Reyes. He joins us on loan until January from Norwich City and has plenty of League One experience on top of playing a few Championship games in the season just gone."
Manager Darren Ferguson expressed his enthusiasm regarding the acquisition, highlighting the swift progression of the deal. "We moved quickly to bring in Vicente. We had clear requirements of what we were looking for, and the fact that Vicente has played games at this level was important. He also played three or four games at the back end of the season for Norwich City in the Championship and fits in with what we look for in a goalkeeper. He is fit and raring to go," Ferguson remarked.
Eager to begin his new chapter, Reyes trained with his new teammates on Thursday. "I am pleased to be here and can't wait to get started," he commented. "It has happened quite quickly; I heard about the interest yesterday and wanted to get it done as it is a good opportunity for me. Norwich play in a similar style to Posh, so that will obviously help me settle in. I am excited about what is to come."
This transfer follows the departure of Jed Steer from Peterborough due to personal reasons, after a 16-month tenure at Weston Homes Stadium. Additionally, with understudy Nicholas Bilokapic also on the transfer list, the club is keen to enhance their goalkeeping options.
Reyes, who joined Norwich from Atlanta United in 2023 and extended his contract in March, now has the opportunity to showcase his skills in a new environment. Fellow goalkeeper George Long is also in a similar position, with a contract lasting until 2027, but sporting director Ben Knapper is open to exploring new opportunities for him as well.
Vicente Reyes will be a player to watch at Peterborough, aiming to make a notable impact and potentially pave the way for a successful return to Carrow Road in the future.
