McConville's Mistake in Boro Defeat
Philippe Clement insisted 'brilliant' Ruairi McConville will bounce back from his Middlesbrough mistake in Norwich City's 4-3 Championship defeat.
The Northern Irish international was robbed by Tommy Conway inside his own penalty area to spark Sebastian Berhalter's leveller, following Mo Toure's stunning opener.
City were 1-0 up inside a minute, and 2-1 down by the eighth minute, with McConville enduring a rough ride at the Riverside in the early carnage.
"We give a really cheap goal away and I'm not going to point at Ruairi about that because he's been so brilliant the last seven, eight months with the team," said Clement.
"Making mistakes is part of football, but it was a hard one to take in that moment because you give belief back to the opponents."
Clement emphasized the importance of learning from such experiences, stating, "Young guys need to learn these lessons that you can never switch off or be disappointed during a game."
Clement's Vision for Young Talents
McConville is part of a growing number of young talents Clement has entrusted with driving his City project forward, but days like Middlesbrough must be part of a brutal learning curve.
"You always need to reset and look for the next action and to believe in the next action will be a good one," he added.
"What they showed in the second half, I think everybody that watched this game, whether they're fans from Middlesbrough, Norwich, or neutral people, they will all have to enjoy the intensity and quality of several goals."
Clement expressed his disappointment, saying, "Of course, I'm gutted now. We're gutted now that we don't get points out of this game, because in the end we deserve this, but we didn't get what we deserved."
Wright Reflects on Defensive Lapses
Jacob Wright admitted Norwich City's defensive lapses proved costly after their spirited second-half comeback fell short in a dramatic 4-3 defeat at Middlesbrough.
City fought back from 3-1 down at half time after some cheap concessions in the opening period to restore parity on Teesside, only to concede in stoppage time as Boro snatched three points.
"It's very hard to take. I think it's definitely a sucker punch in being right towards the end," Wright said.
He acknowledged the need for improvement, stating, "I think clean sheets are really important to make steps as a team and to progress up the league."
Wright emphasized the urgency of improving their defensive performances, saying, "We're working really hard behind the scenes to try and improve that record."
