Placheta Seals Move to Austin FC as Norwich Exit

Przemyslaw Placheta has signed with Austin FC, marking a new chapter after his release from Norwich City. The winger aims to make an impact in MLS.

Placheta Joins Austin FC in MLS

Przemyslaw Placheta is set to live out his American dream after signing with MLS side Austin FC. The former Norwich City winger has penned a contract through to the end of the 2028-29 season, with an option for 2029-30 following his release earlier in the summer from relegated Championship side Oxford United.

Excitement for New Chapter in Austin

Placheta agreed to the deal back in March and linked up with his new team-mates on Wednesday as his contract formally began at Q2 Stadium. The winger is set to make his debut when the club faces Seattle on July 22.

"I'm really excited to begin a new chapter of my career in Austin," Placheta told club channels after moving to the MLS. "I can't wait to make my debut and do everything I can to help the team make a push in the second half of the season. I also hope to use everything I learned during my six years in English football to help the team and make a positive impact in MLS."

Placheta's Journey from Norwich to MLS

Placheta joined the Canaries in 2020 from Polish side Slask Wroclaw, making 26 appearances during their 2020-21 EFL Championship-winning campaign, and went on to play 12 times in the Premier League the following season. A loan spell at Birmingham City followed in July 2022 after health-related issues caused by Covid-19, but injury struck to cut his time at St Andrews short.

Placheta moved to Swansea following his release from City before joining Oxford United, spending two seasons in the Championship, which included reunions with the Canaries, most recently in February when Norwich recorded a Mo Toure-inspired 3-0 victory.

Austin's move for the Poland international appears to be driven by a need for added width and transitional threat in wide areas. The MLS side have endured an inconsistent campaign to date, and Placheta's speed and experience of English football are viewed as assets as they look to push up the Western Conference standings. The switch to MLS offers the winger a chance to reset and establish himself in a new environment, with Austin providing a platform for a more prominent role than he was able to secure in the latter stages of his time in England.
