Norwich City have officially confirmed the departure of several players as the club prepares for a significant summer of transformation. Among those leaving Carrow Road is Tony Springett, a former winger for Derby County. The club's retained list, published today, also includes defender Shane Duffy, midfielder Emiliano Marcondes, versatile player Jeffrey Schlupp, and goalkeeper Dan Barden.
Springett, who joined Norwich’s academy at the age of 12, had a brief spell with Derby during the 2022/23 season, where he made several appearances as the Rams narrowly missed out on the League One play-offs. He made his senior debut for Norwich on the final day of the 2021/22 season and went on to feature in 32 matches, scoring his first goal for the club in an FA Cup tie against Walsall earlier this season.
Duffy, who signed for Norwich on a free transfer after leaving Fulham in 2023, established himself as a key figure in the club's defence, making 91 appearances and netting five goals during his time at Carrow Road. Emiliano Marcondes joined Norwich in October 2024 and quickly became an integral part of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup's squad. Goalkeeper Dan Barden, who arrived at Norwich from Arsenal in January 2019, made four senior appearances, all during the title-winning 2020/21 season. His journey has been remarkable, as he bravely fought against testicular cancer, returning to competitive football just seven months after his diagnosis was made public.
Jeffrey Schlupp, a former Premier League champion, joined Norwich at the beginning of the season. Although he made 11 appearances, his campaign was hampered by injury, limiting his contributions to one assist.
In a statement regarding the departures, Norwich City’s sporting director Ben Knapper expressed gratitude for the contributions of the outgoing players. "On behalf of everyone at Norwich City, I'd like to say a huge thank you to each of the departing players. They've all contributed in many different ways and have all played a part in our story. They'll always be welcome back, and I wish them all the very best for their next steps, whatever they may be," he stated.
