Finley Welch Joins Maidenhead United
Norwich City academy graduate Finley Welch has secured a move to Maidenhead United after a brief spell with Chungbuk Cheongju in South Korea.
The 21-year-old earned a deal with the National League South side after impressing during a successful trial, scoring in a pre-season friendly against Penn & Tylers Green before featuring against Brackley Town.
Return to English Football for Welch
The move marks a permanent return to English football for the midfielder after a six-month stint in Asia, during which he made four K League 2 appearances for Chungbuk Cheongju.
Following his departure from South Korea at the end of June, Welch spent time training with Southend United while reportedly attracting interest from several Football League and National League clubs.
However, it is Maidenhead who have swooped to bring the former City youngster to York Road as they look to mount a promotion push in the new campaign after suffering play-off quarter-final heartbreak against Dorking Wanderers last term.
Welch Excited for New Challenge
“I’m really happy to get the deal done and become a Maidenhead United player,” Welch told club channels. “Everyone at the club has been brilliant with me since I first came in, and I’m excited to get going. I’ll be giving everything every time I step onto the pitch, and I can’t wait to play at York Road in front of the fans. Hopefully, we can have a really successful season together.”
Maidenhead boss Ryan Peters expressed his delight at adding Welch to his ranks ahead of Saturday’s league opener away at Truro City. “Fin came in and has impressed with his performances in training and games, as well as his physical data. He will definitely bring a different element to our play this season,” Peters said.
