Newport County have made a significant addition to their squad by signing centre-back Jaden Warner from Norwich City on an 18-month contract. The 22-year-old defender has been granted the opportunity to leave Carrow Road, where his contract was set to expire at the end of the current season.
A product of Norwich's youth academy, Warner departs after making just four senior appearances for the Championship side. His playing time this season has been limited, with only one appearance in a League Cup match against Stevenage in August. Although he was included in the squad for two league matches, he did not feature. Last season, Warner gained valuable experience during a loan spell at Notts County, where he made ten appearances in League Two.
Warner expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating, "There was a lot of interest, but as soon as I had the phone call from Newport County, it was a no-brainer for me. It was the right time for me and it's a good step in my career to go out and play." His transfer comes on the heels of speculation linking him with a move to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership earlier in the month, highlighting the interest in his potential.
The signing of Warner is part of Newport's broader strategy to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window. He becomes the fourth permanent addition this month, joining goalkeeper Lewis Webb, full-back Tom Davies—who, unfortunately, will miss the remainder of the season due to injury—and versatile forward Josh Martin. Additionally, manager Nelson Jardim has secured winger David Ajiboye on loan from Peterborough United.
According to a report by BBC, these strategic acquisitions reflect Newport's commitment to enhancing their squad as they approach the second half of the season. With Warner's arrival, the club aims to fortify their defensive line and inject fresh energy into their campaign, as they seek to improve their standing in the league.
