Medic Targets Strong Start as Norwich Prepare for Championship

Norwich City's new signing Jakov Medic is ready to bolster the defence ahead of the Championship season, aiming to improve on last year's struggles.

Norwich City’s new signing Jakov Medic is set to enhance the club’s defensive capabilities as he gears up for the upcoming Championship season. The Croatian defender, who has joined from Ajax, is acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead, particularly after a difficult campaign in which the Canaries conceded the fifth highest number of goals in the league. Medic is expected to make his competitive debut against Millwall next weekend, and he is ready to confront the physical demands of English football. “Of course, I've never played so many games like this with any club. It will give me a lot of challenges, but I really like challenges. In all my career before, I have always really liked challenges,” he remarked, demonstrating his determination to make a significant impact at Carrow Road.

Recognising the weight of expectations for the upcoming season, the defender emphasised the team’s collective commitment to improving their performance. “We need to give everything to be at our best because this will help us in the future, especially this season. It will be a tough one. I know and also the club knows what happened last season. So we are trying to improve for this season to be better," Medic stated, underscoring the importance of resilience and teamwork. Norwich recently concluded a rigorous ten-day training camp in the Netherlands, a venture Medic believes will be beneficial as the season unfolds. Reflecting on the demanding nature of the camp, he noted, “Sometimes it's a little bit hard. Sometimes the legs are tired and the head wants something else. Every one of us here has experience, and we know how to handle this. We sometimes speak with the coach to stay a little bit calm. But all in all, it’s important that when we are tired, we still work.” Read more about Derby Day: Ipswich Clash Rescheduled for October 5th.

With the prospect of over 50 matches looming, including various cup competitions, Medic understands the necessity of conditioning his body for the rigours of consecutive fixtures. “This will not be easy. I think this will help us a lot,” he concluded, hinting at the squad's need for endurance as they strive to surpass last season’s disappointing results.

As Norwich City aims to reverse their fortunes in the Championship, Medic’s enthusiasm and readiness to face the challenges ahead could prove crucial in their pursuit of success.
