Vladan Kovacevic is swiftly establishing himself as a key figure at Norwich City, a development that third-choice goalkeeper Louie Moulden finds entirely predictable. Since joining the club, the Serbian goalkeeper has made a significant impact, particularly during crucial moments that resonate with both fans and teammates alike.
Norwich City secured Kovacevic as their primary goalkeeper during a summer restructuring, which also saw Moulden and fellow keeper Dan Grimshaw join the ranks. In the early weeks of the Championship season, Kovacevic’s performances have stood out, especially during a challenging encounter at Carrow Road against Wrexham, where he executed several vital saves that helped maintain the team's competitive edge.
Moulden, who trains daily alongside Kovacevic, has expressed admiration for his teammate’s contributions. “He’s alright. He’s pretty chilled. He has his moments. He’s a bit mad at times,” Moulden remarked with a light-hearted chuckle. “But day to day, we have a good feel for the group and push each other. He does have his moments where he’s crackers.”
Kovacevic’s ability to perform under pressure has not gone unnoticed. Moulden recalled a particularly significant save during a match against Portsmouth, which directly influenced the game’s outcome: “He’s made a good few saves in the games. Obviously, important moments as well in games, not just saves at any point. The one at Pompey, for example, he makes a save, we go up the other end and score.”
As the third-choice keeper, Moulden plays a crucial role in upholding training standards and ensuring Kovacevic is well-prepared for the rigours of Championship football. “At the moment, it’s Vlad who is playing. Dan is not playing at the weekend and I’m obviously the third,” he explained. “In general, my job is to push myself, first of all. Make sure I’m training well. Then second, if they need anything or just keep the level high in training - that’s the main aim.”
Moulden acknowledges the importance of being ready for any eventualities. “Obviously, I’m not playing at the minute. I’ve got to be ready. If the opportunity arrives, I’ve got to push myself and make sure I’m in good nick. Then hopefully, once the opportunity arrives, I take it.”
As Norwich City navigate the challenges of the Championship, Moulden’s commitment to maintaining high standards and his support for Kovacevic will be vital in their pursuit of success this season.
