Timm Klose takes first coaching role
Timm Klose has been appointed head coach of FC Basel’s Under-17s, marking his first managerial position. The former Norwich City defender previously worked as head of training and defensive coordinator at Basel, providing specialist defensive coaching across the academy from Under-14s to Under-21s.
Klose, a 17-time Switzerland international, began and ended his playing career at Basel. His promotion comes as part of a wider reshuffle in the club’s youth setup ahead of the new season, with his predecessor Nikola Marunic moving up to manage the U19s and Patrik Baumann stepping up to the Under-21s.
Klose’s coaching journey and future plans
Since retiring, Klose has been preparing for a coaching career. In a 2024 interview with The Pink'un, he said, "I decided a long time ago. When I was at Norwich, I studied sports management on the side; when I was at Bristol, I started my coaching badges. I'm starting in 2025 the UEFA Pro Licence with the FA, so I will be in the UK quite a bit."
Now 38, Klose brings extensive experience from top European leagues including the Premier League, Bundesliga, Champions League and Europa League. His knowledge will be vital in developing Basel’s young talent.
Klose’s Norwich legacy remembered
Klose joined Norwich City in January 2016 from VfL Wolfsburg, initially brought in to help the club’s Premier League survival push under Alex Neil. Despite a knee injury against Crystal Palace hampering that effort, he remained a loyal figure at Carrow Road, making 128 appearances over five-and-a-half years.
His charismatic personality and key moments, especially his last-minute equaliser against Ipswich Town in 2018, have cemented his status as a cult hero among Canaries fans. That goal remains one of the most memorable in recent club history.
