Norwich City and USMNT striker Josh Sargent will be sidelined for two months due to a groin injury that requires surgery. The 24-year-old forward missed the Canaries’ recent Championship defeat at Cardiff City, prompting head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup to confirm Sargent's prolonged absence. At a press conference on Monday, Thorup stated, “He [Sargent] is going to require surgery, so we're looking at eight weeks. It's not the ideal scenario for anybody. We have options and possibilities for other players to come in.”
This injury represents a significant setback for Norwich City as they look to improve their position in the Championship. The Canaries currently sit 10th in the league table, and Sargent's absence may hinder their promotion ambitions. He has made a notable contribution this season, scoring four goals and providing five assists in just 12 league appearances. This follows a previous campaign in which he netted 16 league goals in only half a season.
Sargent's struggles with injuries have been well-documented; he missed the first half of last season after undergoing ankle surgery and will now be out until 2025 following this latest procedure. The news is also of concern for new USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino, given that Sargent played in both of the team’s first two matches under the Argentine in October. Unfortunately, he will now miss the upcoming two-leg Concacaf Nations League quarter-final against Jamaica.
