Hernandez Rejoins Port Vale as Promotion Push Begins

Onel Hernandez has returned to Port Vale on a one-year deal, aiming to help the club bounce back to League One after last season's relegation.

Onel Hernandez Returns to Port Vale

Onel Hernandez has rejoined League Two side Port Vale following a brief spell with the club last season. The Norwich City favourite, who saw his seven-year Carrow Road stint end last summer, has returned to Vale Park as part of their promotion ambitions under boss Jon Brady after relegation from the third tier last season.

Hernandez Aims for Promotion Success

Hernandez, 33, has signed a one-year deal with Vale and has already returned for pre-season training ahead of their competitive opener against Wolves in the Carabao Cup on August 7. His aim is now to make their fourth-tier spell a one-season stay.

"I'm very happy. I knew from the start that I would come back. You see lots of stuff on social media, but that isn't always true," Hernandez told Port Vale's channels. "I've always been in contact with the gaffer, and coming back here is the greatest thing that I can imagine. I will do my best and give everything."

Brady Excited for Hernandez's Impact

After leaving Norwich last summer, Hernandez trialled with Sheffield Wednesday and held talks with Derby, but eventually signed a short-term contract at Charlton Athletic. That stop-start pre-season meant he was playing catch-up, and injury ended his spell at the Valley. He joined Port Vale initially in February, making 11 appearances and, perhaps unsurprisingly, becoming popular with their fanbase.

"Onel is an exciting attacking prospect for us, and we're delighted to see him stay here with us at Vale Park," Brady said. "We saw the best of him late on in the season, and he has returned looking fit and ready for the new campaign. We're looking forward to seeing more of him next year," according to The Pink'un.
