Former Norwich City goalkeeper Angus Gunn has taken a significant step in his career by signing a one-year contract with Nottingham Forest. The 27-year-old is eager to play a vital role as the club prepares for its return to the Premier League.
Gunn's move to the City Ground follows his departure from Norwich City, where his contract was not renewed by sporting director Ben Knapper. His arrival at Nottingham Forest adds depth to an already strong goalkeeping line-up, which includes Matz Sels, the reigning Golden Glove winner. Despite the competition, Gunn is optimistic that his experience will enhance the squad's capabilities. "I am really happy to be here," Gunn stated on the club’s official website. "This is a historic club on an exciting journey and I’m looking forward to being a part of it and getting to work. I’m joining a good group of keepers, and I believe my experience will add something to the team. I can’t wait to get going." Read more about Norwich Target Promotion Under Manning's New Era.
Ross Wilson, Forest’s chief football officer, also expressed his enthusiasm about Gunn’s signing, particularly after speculation linked him to other clubs, including West Brom and Antalyaspor. "We are pleased to welcome Angus to Nottingham Forest today," Wilson remarked. "He joins a strong goalkeeping department and adds his experience to the group. I know how much Matz has enjoyed his work with Rui Barbosa (goalkeeping coach), and I’m sure Angus will enjoy that same coaching and support as he settles into the club." Gunn’s football journey has been notable, having returned to Norwich City twice after initially starting in their academy. At the age of 17, he made a move to Manchester City, and following a successful loan spell in 2017, he permanently transferred back to Norwich in 2021 for a reported fee of £5 million from Southampton. During his two stints at City, Gunn made 172 appearances and kept 47 clean sheets, playing a crucial role in securing Championship play-off qualification under manager David Wagner in 2024.
As Nottingham Forest prepares for its opening match against Brentford this Sunday, Angus Gunn is set to make a significant impact in the East Midlands, contributing to the club's efforts to establish itself in the Premier League once again.
