Forson Thrives After Norwich Exit
Amankwah Forson believes his move away from Norwich City has provided the fresh environment and regular football needed to continue his development.
The Ghana international completed a deadline-day move to Israeli club Hapoel Beer Sheva, where he has combined a domestic title challenge with Europa League involvement, starting against Dinamo Zagreb, AZ Alkmaar and Union Saint-Gilloise.
Immediate Impact in Israel
Forson's impact has been immediate, scoring three goals and registering an assist across his opening nine appearances, including finding the net during Monday's emphatic 5-2 victory over Maccabi Haifa.
His City exit came despite interest from elsewhere in the Championship, with the opportunity to play European football believed to have been among the factors behind his move to Israel. After an injury-hit two years at Carrow Road, Forson has now explained why he felt a change of environment was needed.
New Opportunities and Development
"It's not difficult for me, I'm here to play. I needed a different coach and a different situation to develop myself," Forson told Sport5. "I'm integrating here very well, the management and the players are helping me. I'm happy to be here."
Forson's departure was sanctioned after he slipped down the pecking order at Carrow Road, with head coach Clement conceding during pre-season that competition for places meant the midfielder was struggling to impose himself. The City head coach later explained that regular football mattered not only for Forson's development but also to protect the value of a player Norwich had invested heavily in, spending £4 million to bring him to Norfolk from Austrian side RB Salzburg in 2024.
