Field, who spent five years at Loftus Road, made a timely move to Carrow Road as Norwich sought to strengthen their midfield following injuries to Pelle Mattsson and Mirko Topic. Securing his services just before the transfer deadline proved crucial during a challenging period for the club.
Bringing both experience and stability, Field has allowed teammate Kenny McLean to adopt a more liberated playing style. His integration into the squad has coincided with a remarkable resurgence for Norwich, who have achieved eight victories in their last ten Championship matches.
“It’s been eye-opening and very intense,” Field remarked about his early experiences at the club. “There’s a reason why he’s a top manager. I wasn’t here at the start of the season, but I think a lot’s happened since then, and you can probably see it in the team. I’m sure the fans can see it, and people are enjoying the football; people are really playing and working hard for each other. That’s credit to the manager and his staff. It’s only been a month, but I’ve really enjoyed it.” Read more about Clement's Manager of the Month Bid Stalls as Norwich Shine.
While Field may not possess the flair of teammates like Paris Maghoma or the directness of Ali Ahmed, his straightforward approach has been a valuable asset to a predominantly youthful squad. He understands his role within the team and is dedicated to helping his teammates excel.
“Look, I know what I can bring to the team. I’m not like Mo scoring a hat-trick. That’s brilliant, but if you’re asking me to do that, it’s probably something's not quite right there,” he stated in the club’s official matchday programme. Field also expressed his enjoyment in playing alongside Kenny, Anis, Jacob, and Paris, highlighting his commitment to the collective efforts of the team.
Having amassed nearly 200 appearances for QPR since his arrival in January 2021, Field's decision to join Norwich came after he found himself sidelined, having been outpaced by other midfield options under Julien Stephan. Although he exercised patience before making the transition, he now feels a genuine sense of belonging at Norwich.
“A lot has happened in a month, but I’m really enjoying it,” he said. “I feel like I’ve settled in, and it’s a really good group of lads. The staff have been very good, the whole club and set-up—I’ve enjoyed it. I’m just looking forward to the next two months to make the most of it. I’ve been at QPR for five years; I’ve been there for a while, and this is a new experience and a new challenge.”
Field’s seamless adjustment to life at Norwich has been bolstered by the team's success on the pitch and the growing rapport between players and supporters.
“There’s a lot more off the pitch that you have to think about as well. It was about how quickly I could get sorted and settled down. I know it’s only three months, but it can fly by or go really slow if you’re not careful,” he noted. “It’s flying by, which is a good sign. I feel really settled in and around the city and the area. It’s very different to living near London, but it’s a nice change. I’m sure when it gets sunnier, we’ll be by the beach a bit more.” Read more about Kovacevic Targets Third Clean Sheet as City Face Blades.
Adjusting to new surroundings can be challenging, but Field is embracing the vibrant atmosphere at Norwich. “It’s slightly strange and something different. I’ve had something very similar for five years, so to see the fans week in, week out, midweek, it’s always full and energetic. It’s a nice feeling, and I can tell the group here is giving them something to cheer about as well. That’s a marriage that goes very well hand in hand.”
As Field aims to maximise his time with the Canaries, the prospects look promising for both the player and the club, as they strive to ascend the Championship standings.
