Dean Ashton on Norwich's New Signing Ante Crnac

Dean Ashton praises Norwich City's new talent Ante Crnac, comparing him to a 'puppy' and highlighting his potential.

Former Norwich City FC star Dean Ashton has commented on the potential of new signing Ante Crnac, likening the young Croatian attacker to a "puppy". Following Adam Idah's move to Celtic in the recent transfer window, Canaries sporting director Ben Knapper made a significant investment in Crnac, who has already started five league matches under head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, although he has yet to score or assist.

Ashton notes that Crnac's technical ability and ball skill suggest a promising future. He highlighted a notable moment where Crnac's vision helped set up Josh Sargent for a penalty during the 1-1 draw against Leeds United. Ashton described Crnac as displaying "adorable" moments on the pitch, saying, “He reminds me a bit of a young puppy as in he will do something that is so lovely and just superb... and then just turn around and hit their head on the door.”

Despite the inconsistencies, Ashton believes there is considerable potential in Crnac, stating, “Some of the touches [from Crnac], I was like, yes, that is a player, that is going to be a player. The bit for the goal, stunning. There is absolutely a player with a couple of other bits.”

Asheth believes Thorup’s confidence in Crnac will be crucial as the forward aims to score his first goal in Norwich colours soon. The Canaries will be hoping to see more from the talented young attacker as the 2024/2025 season unfolds.
