Byram Eyes Regular Football as Leeds Exit Looms

Sam Byram reveals his desire for regular playing time as his contract at Leeds United nears its end, reflecting on his time at Norwich City and future ambitions.

Sam Byram's Future at Leeds United

Former Norwich City defender Sam Byram has admitted he hopes to find a club where he can play regularly when his contract at Elland Road expires this summer.

Byram spent four seasons at Carrow Road before reuniting with former City boss Daniel Farke at his boyhood club Leeds United on a free transfer in August 2023.

The 32-year-old played a key role during Farke's first season in West Yorkshire, featuring 37 times as Leeds fell just short in the Championship play-off final at Wembley against Southampton.

Success followed the next year as the Whites won the Championship title, with Byram once again a mainstay in Farke's side after making 39 appearances.

Injury Struggles and Career Revival

Following promotion to the Premier League, the full-back has made just 4 outings this term across all competitions and has hinted at exploring new opportunities next term.

For me, I still feel I've still got a few years ahead playing football; I'd like to play regularly if I can, Byram told The Pink'un.

Byram made 54 appearances in a City shirt across four seasons, with injuries limiting his impact at Carrow Road, but the defender remains grateful to Farke for helping revive his career back up north.

He's the reason I've had a chance back here. I'm not daft enough to not realise he's the one who gave me the foot in the door and helped me build a career here again off the back of some tough years.

Life After Football for Byram

When the time eventually comes to hang up his boots, Byram admits he does not yet have a clear plan in place for what comes next.

I'm not sure. I feel like I'd like to have a go at management, but the sacrifice you make as a footballer for your family is the same in management and coaching.

So, as much as I'd like to have a go at it, I think I've done my bit in football, and I'll probably explore something else.

After football, family time for me is huge. I've got a growing family; I got married last year, and I've got another baby on the way, so I'm sure that will keep me busy for a bit, then we'll see what happens.
