At 48 years old, Buhler previously served as an assistant to David Wagner at Norwich City until Wagner's dismissal in May 2024. Following this change, Buhler remained with the club, contributing to the academy across various age groups while continuing to reside in the area with his family. His commitment to youth development underscores a strong dedication to nurturing talent within the club. Read more about Field Joins Norwich City on Loan as QPR Seek Midfield Depth.

In his new role at Derby, Buhler will focus on opposition analysis and facilitating the integration of academy players into the first team at Pride Park. Reports suggest that his extensive experience and tactical acumen are expected to play a crucial part in Derby's ambitions as they pursue a place in the play-offs.

Buhler's coaching career has been closely linked with Wagner, having collaborated with him at Huddersfield Town, Young Boys, and Schalke before their reunion at Norwich in January 2023. Their professional relationship is built on mutual respect and understanding, a sentiment Wagner expressed in February 2023. He remarked, “We know each other inside out. He knows exactly how the game should look like and how I think the game should look like. He is a very hard working assistant, who I really can trust and rely on.”

Wagner further elaborated on their long-standing partnership, stating, “He is somebody who really likes the details as well, and obviously we have known each other more than 20 years, this means there is more than only a working relationship between us. It’s very important that you have somebody where you can have very clear, honest conversations without him sulking, and this is the case with him.”

As Buhler embarks on this new chapter with Derby County, his extensive experience and deep understanding of the game will be invaluable as the club strives to achieve its goal of reaching the Championship play-offs. The Rams are keen to leverage Buhler's insights in their quest for success this season.
