The 25-year-old arrived at Carrow Road in January from Vancouver Whitecaps in a deal reportedly worth in the region of £1.4 million.
He went on to make 21 appearances last term, contributing four goals and three assists as Philippe Clement's side surged up the Championship table.
From Canada to Norwich: A Dream Move
Born in Toronto to Ethiopian parents, Ahmed has since enjoyed a busy summer, representing Canada at a home World Cup before making a memorable visit to Ethiopia, where he spent time inspiring the next generation of young athletes.
Ahead of his trip to East Africa, Ahmed was asked what fuelled his decision to swap Vancouver for Norwich. Read more about Hogh Set for Celtic Move as Norwich Miss Out.
"I think everybody, especially growing up here, watches soccer in Europe, and you always dream of playing in Europe," the winger told OMN.
"When Norwich came calling, I didn't think twice. Of course, Canada is home, but the highest level of football is in England and Europe. So, when that opportunity came about, I didn't think twice." Read more about Van Der Heyden Embraces New Challenge at Norwich City.
Reflecting on a Memorable Summer
It's not Ahmed's first foray into English football, having trialled with non-league sides Enfield Town, Cheshunt, and Tooting & Mitcham as a youngster, although none of those opportunities materialised.
Now back at Colney with his City teammates preparing for the new season, Ahmed reflected on his summer experience.
"Yeah, it was such a great experience playing at a World Cup. To then get the chance to play one at home in Toronto and Vancouver, two special cities for me, was probably the greatest milestone of my career that I'll always talk about and remember," he said.
"I think you have to be grateful anytime you get to play at a World Cup. I was fortunate enough to play at home with family and friends in the stadium, so it was very special," he added.
