Jacob Wright's Personal Progress at Norwich
By his own admission, Jacob Wright's first full season at Norwich City didn't go as planned, but he is pleased with his personal progress this time around. Following an impressive loan spell under Johannes Hoff Thorup, excitement was high when the Canaries captured the former Manchester City youngster on a permanent deal in May 2025. However, Wright found regular first-team football harder to come by last campaign, making 28 Championship appearances, just 13 of which came from the start. That prompted City chief Philippe Clement to personally challenge the midfielder to improve certain aspects of his game, something Wright believes he has done so far this term. “Yes, on a personal level, it’s been an enjoyable start to the season,” the 21-year-old said. “I think I’m in a lot better position than last year. I’m starting to affect games a lot more and coming on and making impacts, which is what I was looking to do at the start of the season.”
Frustration Over Slow Start to Season
While Wright has been pleased with his own progress, the group remains frustrated by their start to the season and now have a lengthy international break to reflect on it. “Yes, it’s a first time for everyone (with the longer break). It’ll be interesting to see how everyone comes out of it at the end of this, but it might be a good thing,” he said.
Wright can see pros and cons to having a three-week international break. “Some could say we’ve got three weeks to sort of work on what’s been going wrong. And then, on the other hand, you’ve got three weeks until your next game, and you’re dwelling on the past,” he explained.
Looking Ahead to Upcoming Matches
Norwich travels to early Championship pace-setters Swansea City after the break before hosting promotion hopefuls Southampton, two games Wright is looking forward to. “Yes, 100 per cent. Everyone’s very eager (to put things right),” he said. Read more about Toure Faces Long Road to Recovery After Shoulder Surgery.
The targets were set out very clearly at the start of the season, and everyone has big aspirations and is hopeful of reaching them. “So, we’re working every day really hard to try and put ourselves in the best position to be able to achieve those goals,” Wright added.
