Springett Targets Long-Term Norwich Stay After Career Revival

Tony Springett expresses his desire to extend his contract with Norwich City, highlighting his resurgence after overcoming serious injuries and contributing to the team.

Tony Springett has made it clear that he is keen to continue his journey with Norwich City, showcasing a renewed passion for the game under manager Philippe Clement. The 23-year-old winger has experienced a remarkable revival in his career following a series of serious injuries, leading to an optimistic outlook as he aims to extend his stay beyond the current Championship season.

Springett's return to form was evident when he made his first start for Norwich in over two years during a match against Watford in early December. Since then, he has added 11 appearances to his tally and celebrated a significant milestone by scoring his first senior goal for the Canaries in the FA Cup third round against Walsall. Having navigated a challenging eighteen-month period that included spinal surgery for a severe back injury, Springett is determined to make the most of his time on the pitch. He has openly shared his aspirations in recent interviews, expressing a strong desire to contribute to his team.

Currently, his contract runs until the end of this season, with an option for an additional year. However, discussions regarding a long-term future with the club have yet to take place with sporting director Ben Knapper and Clement. “Not just yet, but we're in the same building every day, so I'm pretty sure it will happen at some point,” he remarked during the club's half-term signing session.

When asked about his commitment to Norwich, Springett responded with enthusiasm: “Yes, for sure. Especially as I feel like it’s different when it comes to me. It’s my 13th year here. I know I grew up in London, but when people ask where you’re from now, I’ll probably say Norwich because I’ve spent more than half my life here. So, I’d love nothing more, but we’ll just have to see what happens.” Read more about Norwich Target Leonard as Dundalk Agree Transfer.

As injuries have begun to affect the squad, Springett is grateful to be healthy and making contributions on the field. He is also keeping a close eye on teammate Oscar Schwartau, who suffered a hamstring injury during a match against West Brom. Reflecting on his own past challenges, Springett stated, “Yes, there’s nothing more you can ask for as a player than just being able to stay fit. Being out for such a long time, it was hard, but looking back at it now, I’d probably say that it was worth it. I learnt a lot and I can’t dwell on that anymore. I lost a couple of years, well, a year and a bit, but I can’t dwell on that now. I’ve just got to keep looking forward.”

Supporters can look forward to a full extended video interview featuring Springett, set to be released on the Pink'un channels later this week. As the winger’s relationship with Norwich flourishes, fans will be eager to see more of his talents showcased in the upcoming matches.
