Norwich Target Baumann as Talks with United Progress

Norwich City are in advanced discussions with Manchester United over the signing of young midfielder Zachary Baumann, aiming to bolster their youth setup ahead of the transfer deadline.

Norwich City are reportedly making significant strides in the transfer market, engaging in discussions with Manchester United over the potential signing of young midfielder Zachary Baumann. According to The Pink'un, both clubs are negotiating terms that would see the 18-year-old join the Canaries' development squad, a move aimed at enhancing Norwich’s youth setup ahead of the impending transfer deadline on Monday evening. Baumann has been a part of Manchester United's prestigious academy since childhood, playing a crucial role in the club's under-18 side, which clinched a treble during the 2023/24 season. His arrival would complement the recent signings of Botan Ameen and Glenn McCourt, further demonstrating Norwich's commitment to nurturing young talent.

Born in Bolton to Ukrainian parents, Baumann represents Ukraine at the under-18 level, having earned two caps to date. His international debut came during a 2-1 defeat to Kazakhstan in the Euro U19 qualifying rounds last November. Reflecting on his heritage and aspirations, Baumann expressed, "I am very happy to have finally become a citizen of Ukraine and now I will be able to represent my country on the international stage. There is excitement, but it is positive because I feel the support of many people. I can't wait to meet the team. And forward to our victory. And not only on the football field."

As a central midfielder, Baumann has made 43 appearances for both United's U18 and U21 teams. He notably faced Norwich's U21 side earlier this month, contributing to a 4-2 victory for the Red Devils. After signing his first professional contract with Manchester United in September 2022, Baumann has encountered limited opportunities under first-team manager Ruben Amorim. A transfer to Norwich could provide him with the platform necessary for further development as he approaches his 19th birthday in January.

Norwich City are clearly focused on strengthening their youth ranks this summer, aiming to cultivate talent that will serve the club well in the future. With the transfer window set to close at 7pm on Monday, the anticipation surrounding Baumann's potential signing continues to build.
