Norwich City secured a resounding 4-1 victory over Watford in their Sky Bet Championship clash at Carrow Road on Saturday, 21st September 2024. The match, played with an attendance of 26,438, marked only Norwich's second win of the Championship season.
The Canaries opened the scoring just three minutes into the match. Callum Doyle, on loan from Manchester City, fired home from 20 yards, with his shot seemingly slipping through the hands of Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann. However, Watford responded well and equalised on 26 minutes when Ryan Andrews guided a header home following a Ken Sema cross, despite Norwich's attempts to regain control.
Norwich regained the lead just before half-time, with Borja Sainz converting a clever pass from Kenny McLean after a rapid counter-attack. McLean's role in the match was vital, as he assisted with both Norwich's second and third goals.
Nine minutes into the second half, Marcelino Nunez extended the hosts' lead with a clinical finish from another McLean cross, making it 3-1. Norwich remained in control through the rest of the match, with Josh Sargent coming close to adding to the tally, only to see his effort go wide.
The scoring was completed just before the final whistle when substitute Ben Chrisene netted his first goal for the club, converting a cross from Jack Stacey to seal the 4-1 win.
The match was notable for Watford's struggles, as they lost both Francisco Sierralta and Bachmann to injuries in the early stages. The visitors had a missed opportunity to take the lead when Daniel Jebbison blasted over from close range after a corner hit the post.
While Norwich City celebrated a convincing win, Watford will need to regroup as they look to bounce back in their next fixtures.
