Kenny McLean has been honoured as Norwich City’s Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign, receiving the prestigious Barry Butler Memorial Trophy for the second time, as voted by the club’s supporters. The announcement was made during a heartfelt pre-match ceremony ahead of the game against Swansea City at Carrow Road. In addition to McLean's accolade, Oscar Schwartau was recognised with the Young Player of the Season award. This event held special significance as it also marked a farewell to club legend Neil Adams, who has dedicated three decades to Norwich in various roles, including manager, assistant sporting director, and academy coach.
This latest honour adds to McLean’s previous recognition from the 2023/24 season, where he outshone teammates Gabriel Sara and Josh Sargent during Norwich’s play-off run, which ultimately ended in disappointment against Leeds United. This year’s award further cements McLean’s status, making him the 13th player in the club’s history to receive this honour and the 10th Scottish player to achieve such a feat.
Joining an illustrious group of repeat winners, which includes notable figures such as Teemu Pukki, Darren Huckerby, and Iwan Roberts, McLean now stands tied for second place in Norwich City's all-time Player of the Season rankings, with only Grant Holt having won the award three times.
At 34 years of age, McLean is set to make his 42nd appearance of the Championship season. His leadership has been pivotal in guiding the team through a challenging start, particularly following the appointment of Philippe Clement in November, which has led to a marked improvement in the squad's performance. This season, McLean has contributed significantly with two goals and four assists, with only goalkeeper Vladan Kovacevic logging more minutes on the pitch than the Canaries’ captain. Furthermore, McLean has surpassed 300 appearances for Norwich, becoming only the seventh player to reach this milestone in the 21st century.
As Norwich City looks to build on this season’s achievements, McLean’s influence both on and off the pitch is undeniable, making him a deserving recipient of this year’s fan-voted honour.
