McConville Vows to Improve After Norwich's Defensive Crisis

Ruairi McConville reflects on Norwich's struggles this season, expressing disappointment over defensive lapses and a desire to regroup during the international break.

McConville Reflects on Norwich's Struggles

Ruairi McConville has been disappointed with his start to the season with Norwich City, as he vowed to do some soul-searching over the break.

The young defender is currently away with Northern Ireland and hopes a change of scenery will offer a reset after a week when City shipped 13 goals before the Championship paused for the international break. Read more about Norwich City Mourns Loss of Honorary Life President.

Defensive Woes Haunt Young Defender

After emerging as a key figure during Norwich's revival under Philippe Clement last season, the 21-year-old has been frustrated by his own contribution to a difficult start to the new campaign. Read more about Jurasek Shines as Norwich's Loan Stars Make Progress.

"Maybe the most recent games more because they're in my head, but I know I'm far better than the performances I've been putting on," he said.

"Regardless, if I'm playing well, if you concede four goals, I'm never going to think I've played well. So, it's just that everyone out there should be as disappointed as me that we've conceded goals and done too often. It's just not good enough and it is so disappointing, but I'll be hungry to put it right and that's what we've got to do."

Looking Ahead After International Break

McConville is among several Norwich players away on international duty, limiting the squad's ability to work collectively on the issues that have contributed to their poor defensive record.

Despite that, he is confident City's squad can come back stronger before the Championship resumes with tests against early pacesetters Swansea City and promotion hopefuls Southampton.

"Maybe it's what we need just to take a break and regroup, but it's important to not just forget about what's happened," he added. "We've lost a game at home. We conceded four goals and it's not good enough. Everyone knows that and everyone is feeling the same way where we have to improve and it's time now to see who will and who will step up and everyone has to."

"It's important just to work on things and work together and stick together because we know we're a good side and we're a good group, and we'll be ready to go again once the break finishes," McConville concluded.
