Norwich City Mourns Michael Wynn Jones
A book of condolences is set to be opened after the death of Norwich City's honorary life president, Michael Wynn Jones. The club announced that the former majority shareholder had passed away peacefully at the age of 85, at home, surrounded by family.
Flags at Carrow Road were lowered to half-mast on Monday afternoon as a mark of respect. A spokesman for the club stated, "First and foremost, Michael was a Norwich City supporter at heart, and we understand that this will be incredibly sad news for everyone associated with our football club."
Tributes at Lion & Castle Pub
Following his death, a book of condolences will be opened in the Lion & Castle at Carrow Road, where supporters can write personal tributes. The book will be available from midday on Tuesday, September 29.
In accordance with the wishes of Wynn Jones' family, the pub will also serve drinks to raise money for St Elizabeth Hospice. The Lion & Castle will stay open for the rest of the week to allow fans time to pay their respects and write in the book.
The pub's opening hours will be Tuesday (midday-9pm), Wednesday (9am-9pm), Thursday (9am-9pm), and Friday (9am-midday). On Saturday and Sunday (9am-5pm), the book will be available in the South Stand reception area. Supporters will not be charged for parking at the stadium.
Legacy of Michael Wynn Jones
The club's spokesman added, "At the request of the family, we ask that their privacy be respected at this sad time as they mourn the passing of their loved one." The club will work with the family on a permanent tribute to Michael's life and legacy at Carrow Road, as well as a tribute prior to one of the club's upcoming home fixtures.
Wynn Jones, alongside his wife Delia Smith, first became involved with the club in 1996 at the invitation of former majority shareholder Geoffrey Watling during a period of financial uncertainty. They became majority shareholders in 1998 and went on to oversee five promotions to the Premier League, helping steer the club towards long-term financial stability.
