Liam Manning has expressed his thoughts on his brief tenure as head coach of Norwich City, taking pride in his efforts despite the challenges that led to his dismissal after a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Leicester City. Returning to his hometown club this summer, Manning had previously enjoyed success at Bristol City, guiding them to the Championship play-offs. However, the initial optimism surrounding his appointment, alongside an active transfer window, failed to translate into the consistent performances Norwich City required during his five-month leadership.

In a heartfelt statement released through the League Managers' Association, Manning reflected on his time at Carrow Road, acknowledging the high expectations that accompanied his arrival. “Unfortunately, we were unable to achieve the results or fulfil the plans we set out when we took over in June,” he lamented.

He also took the opportunity to recognise the unwavering support from the fans, who remained loyal to the team amidst growing frustrations. “Although my time with the fans was brief, I want to acknowledge their outstanding support during a challenging period,” Manning stated. “They continued to show up in great numbers—unsurprising given their passion and loyalty—and displayed incredible spirit despite understandable frustrations. Thank you.”

Manning expressed gratitude towards his coaching staff, including Chris Hogg and James Krause, for their relentless efforts in trying to turn the club’s fortunes around. “The club welcomed me warmly, and the dedication of everyone across all departments never went unnoticed. I am truly grateful for that,” he noted. Read more about Holt Targets Success as Partick Thistle Women’s Manager.

He also thanked the players for their commitment throughout his coaching stint, concluding with well wishes for their future endeavours, both personally and professionally. “I will now reflect on the last few months and enjoy some time with my family. I wish everyone associated with Norwich City the very best for the future,” Manning remarked.

As Norwich City embarks on the search for a new head coach following Manning's departure, the club faces the challenge of finding a new direction to restore its competitive edge in the league.
