Mahovo Targets September Return as Canaries Eye Promotion

Lucien Mahovo is optimistic about returning to action for Norwich City against Coventry City in September, following a challenging recovery from injury.

Lucien Mahovo, a promising full-back for Norwich City, is optimistic about making a return to competitive football in time for the Canaries’ fixture against Coventry City in September, following a challenging period sidelined by injury.

The 20-year-old defender has faced a tough recovery since sustaining a knee injury in February, which was further complicated by a quad tear in April. This unfortunate sequence of events has seen Mahovo miss all pre-season activities under head coach Liam Manning. However, recent progress in his rehabilitation has sparked hope, as he has begun fitness training and is moving closer to rejoining full team drills. Norwich's next match against Coventry is scheduled for September 13, shortly after the international break, and Mahovo may find himself back in contention for selection. “I’m not far off playing at all now,” Mahovo stated in an interview with The Pink'un. “I’m about two weeks away from returning to training, and I’ll hopefully start playing after the international break. He elaborated on his recovery, saying, “I’ve been on the grass for quite a while now, but it’s just where you’ve got to reintroduce the ball and build yourself up to the level. I haven’t played football or run in so long, so to get to that level of Championship playing takes a bit of time.”

Reflecting on his time away from the pitch, Mahovo expressed disappointment at missing opportunities to showcase his talent under Manning. Nevertheless, he reassured fans that the manager has been supportive and has reaffirmed his importance in the club’s promotion ambitions.

“It was frustrating,” Mahovo confessed. “It was bittersweet really because it was going so well and I was happy, and then it was cut short. But it’s just part and parcel of what comes with the game. You just move on and look for the next opportunity. You always want to impress and show what you’re capable of.”

He further praised Manning’s approach, saying, “He’s a great manager and he’s really good at talking to you. He’s settled my nerves and worries of being out of the squad and not being able to prove myself. I’m just focused on returning really.”

As Mahovo prepares for his much-anticipated comeback, Norwich City supporters are eager to see him back on the field, where he can play a vital role in the team's aspirations for promotion this season. Read more about Hanley Targets Fresh Start at Hibernian After Norwich Exit.
