Norwich City have taken a significant step in securing the future of promising striker Dylan Jones, offering him a new contract that extends his stay at Carrow Road until 2028, with an option for an additional year. The 21-year-old forward, who made the leap from non-league Plymouth Parkway last season after a successful trial, has had his contract renewed as he approaches the final year of his previous agreement.
During the first half of the current season, Jones was loaned to League Two side Tranmere Rovers, where he managed to score once before an unfortunate injury sidelined him, limiting his playing time at Prenton Park. Norwich City officials are optimistic that Jones can develop into a crucial member of manager Philippe Clement's first-team squad in the future. In response to the new contract, Jones expressed his gratitude for the trust the club has shown in him. Read more about McLean Targets World Cup Glory as Norwich's Scotland Star.
"It's a great reward, obviously. All my hard work has paid off to this moment, so I'm very happy," Jones stated in an interview with the club's official channels. He added, "I always give 100% out on the pitch. I think I'm a team player as well. I always do the most I can do for my teammates and obviously, I like scoring goals."
Reflecting on his loan experience at Tranmere, Jones conveyed a mix of satisfaction and disappointment. "Tranmere was a great experience. I loved every minute of it and obviously gutted it was cut short, but it is what it is." His injury, sustained in October, proved to be a substantial hurdle, resulting in missed opportunities to gain further experience in competitive matches. "The injury was hard because I'd done it in October and then to re-do it again was a bit of a kick in the teeth. Obviously, the first couple of weeks I was a little bit down, I just learned to get on with things. A few weeks away now, so I'm just working as hard as I can to get back on the pitch."
Looking ahead, Jones is committed to his personal development. "Next season, I just work as hard as I can, and wherever it takes me, it takes me. I don't really set too many specific goals. If I just work hard day in, day out, whatever happens, what happens."
This announcement marks the second contract extension for an academy player within a 24-hour period, following the news that Jeremiah Sinclair-Brown has also been granted his first professional contract. Norwich City are clearly focused on investing in their youth, and supporters will be keen to see how Jones and his fellow academy graduates perform in the forthcoming seasons.
