Coventry City midfielder Jamie Allen has expressed his bewilderment regarding the team's recent performances, particularly following a heart-wrenching defeat to Norwich City on Saturday. Despite the disappointment, he remains committed to collaborating with his teammates in training to identify solutions.
Under the stewardship of Frank Lampard, who has overseen nine matches since his appointment, Coventry's results have been a mixed bag. The Sky Blues have recorded three wins, three draws, and three losses, with their latest outing at Carrow Road proving especially disheartening. Coventry initially took the lead through a first-half goal from Milan van Ewijk, but the match took a dramatic turn in stoppage time when Forson Amankwah, who had only just entered the fray, scored twice to secure victory for Norwich, leaving Coventry empty-handed.
In the aftermath of the defeat, Allen, now in his sixth season with the club, sought to emphasise the positives from their performance. He highlighted the new tactics being introduced by Lampard during training as vital, particularly with an FA Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday on the horizon. "It's just little things," Allen remarked. "I really can't put my finger on it which they are, but we're working together. The new head coach has come in and got his good ideas, and we're working with those ideas and hopefully we can put performances like that together week in and week out, and then hopefully results come."
Allen acknowledged that it may take time to recover from the recent setback, urging his teammates to adopt a forward-thinking mindset. "I think it'll take time to get over it a bit, and then hopefully the boys come in next week, and it's in the past now. So, we have to work forward and think about the future," he added.
The midfielder has recently returned to the starting lineup after an extended spell on the sidelines due to injury. Having previously featured as a substitute in a heavy defeat against Portsmouth and a convincing victory over Plymouth Argyle, Allen played the full match against Norwich. "Yeah, it's my first start since my injury. I'm so happy to be back in the team, helping the team," he stated. "I felt like I've worked hard, I felt the whole team did as well. We worked as a proper team, and I hope it continues."
As reported by Coventry Live, the Sky Blues are determined to regroup and build on the positive aspects of their recent performances as they prepare for their next fixture. With a focus on improvement and resilience, Coventry City are looking to turn their fortunes around in the coming weeks.
