After narrowly missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification in the mid-2000s, Bolton sought to regain their former glory in the summer of 2008. Following the departure of Sam Allardyce and the sale of Nicolas Anelka, the club, under Gary Megson's management, made significant signings, including Elmander from Toulouse for a fee believed to be around £8.2 million.

Elmander's Mixed Stint at Bolton

Elmander had a rocky start at Bolton, scoring on his debut in a 3-1 victory over Stoke City. However, he only managed four more goals that season as the team struggled against relegation.
