Ali Ahmed's Impact at Norwich City
Ali Ahmed's rapid impact at Norwich City has caught attention on both sides of the Atlantic. Compatriot Simeon Jackson believes the winger is primed to carry that form into Canada's World Cup campaign.
The 24-year-old is currently back in his homeland working through a rehab programme ahead of the tournament next month, with Jesse Marsch's side hoping home advantage can fuel a deep run.
Ahmed recorded seven goal contributions in 19 Championship matches to help Norwich turn their season around from relegation worries to a top-half finish. That form offers a strong platform for the Canaries winger heading into the World Cup.
Simeon Jackson's Confidence in Ahmed
Any run will require Ahmed to play a significant role. Jackson, who won 49 caps for Canada, believes his January move to Norwich has already been vindicated, despite initial surprise at his switch from MLS.
"It was a surprise, really. I know he'd been in the national team and done well and had a great season for Vancouver," the former City striker said. "Then to come out and just how he adapted so quickly to the league and the demands of it. Playing Saturday, Tuesday, and sometimes three games a week. That's not easy to get adjusted to straight away."
Jackson expressed his excitement about Ahmed's experience at Norwich, saying, "It's a great club to be a part of and play for. It's nice that he's getting to experience that."
Canada's World Cup Aspirations
Ahmed will have plenty of yellow and green backing this summer, and Jackson is excited to see how Canada's squad handles the occasion. "I'm looking forward to seeing how the boys do. A little bit of added pressure at being at home, but the boys will just relish that. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience," he said.
Jackson praised the team's front-footed style under Jesse Marsch, stating, "Just that intensity and that demand that he puts on the players is brilliant. The boys really buy into it." He hopes the team's brotherhood and togetherness will translate into good results on the pitch.
Jackson concluded by emphasizing the long-term impact of the World Cup experience, saying, "You're already seeing it now with the excitement and the buzz. It's special to have a player at the club who will be taking part in that. You just wish him all the best and can't wait to see them out there." The Pink'un
