Josh Sargent is enjoying a remarkable start to the season, with the Norwich City forward crediting his impressive form to the “amazing” support of head coach Liam Manning. The 25-year-old has made a significant impact on the pitch, netting six goals in his first six matches, which has earned him the EFL Player of the Month award for August, alongside a club accolade voted on by fans.
Sargent highlights Manning’s unwavering belief in his abilities as a key factor in his recent successes. The Norwich manager previously remarked that keeping Sargent at the club beyond the summer transfer window was his best piece of business, a sentiment that has clearly resonated with the player.
“It’s amazing, of course, to have that trust in me to go out there and do my thing,” Sargent reflected. “It just puts that confidence inside of me. I think confidence is a huge key for any player, and to hear that from the manager and have that trust just helps me out even more.”
As he settles into his role, Sargent is developing a strong sense of belonging at Carrow Road. “It’s kind of become a home for me and my family now,” he explained. “We’re all very happy and very comfortable here at the moment. I feel good off the field, feel good on the pitch. I think everybody here knows what I can do, and they put that trust in me to go out there and score goals for the team.”
Despite Sargent's individual achievements, Norwich City have encountered a mixed bag of results in their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League. The forward acknowledges that achieving consistency will be vital for the team's aspirations. Read more about Cambridge City Part Ways with Cureton After Poor Start.
“It’s a long season and there are a lot of things that need to go right,” he commented during an interview on CBS Sports Golazo. “The club have done a good job of bringing some depth into the squad and we have a lot of good options now. We’ve just got to string together some wins – I think if you can go on a run of form with four, five, six games winning back-to-back, it puts you in a really good position.”
While Sargent is encouraged by the team's start, he remains focused on continual improvement. “I think we’ve had a decent start as a team, but I know we have a lot to improve on, so we’re just going to keep working on it. Hopefully we can string together some wins and put ourselves in a good position by the winter time.”
Sargent's form and growing confidence will be crucial for Norwich City's ambitions, and the club will be eager to see him maintain this impressive trajectory.
