Ruhr Targets Data-Driven Revolution at Norwich City

Norwich City have appointed Gabor Ruhr as their new head of scouting, aiming to enhance their recruitment strategy ahead of the Championship season.

Gabor Ruhr Joins Norwich City

Norwich City have appointed Gabor Ruhr as their new head of scouting following a spell at Bundesliga club FC Koln. The German steps into the role after Lee Dunn's promotion to assistant sporting director, which came after Neil Adams' retirement earlier this summer.

Ruhr's Impressive Background

Ruhr has begun work at Colney, bringing a wealth of experience from some of Germany's most prominent clubs. He holds a Uefa A Coaching Licence and a Uefa Elite Scout Programme qualification, having completed the latter in 2025. Additionally, he has a Master's degree in Exercise Science and Coaching and is currently pursuing a PhD in the field.

His career in professional football began at Koln in 2015, where he worked as a performance analyst before moving to Eintracht Frankfurt and then Hertha BSC. He returned to Koln in February 2024 as a scout with a Scandinavian focus before being promoted to head of scouting and squad planning in April 2025.

Data-Driven Recruitment Strategy

Ruhr's appointment signals Norwich's commitment to a data-driven recruitment strategy. Sporting director Ben Knapper and majority shareholder Mark Attanasio have assembled a data team at City, utilising the fbtl src firm, which was purchased by Norfolk Holdings last year. Ruhr is known for integrating analytics into the scouting process and building club-specific recruitment platforms.

His arrival comes as the Canaries look to strengthen their infrastructure ahead of another Championship campaign, with Ruhr expected to lead the recruitment efforts alongside Dunn, who will continue to play a key role in signing players. For more details, visit The Pink'un.
