Norwich City boss Johannes Hoff Thorup believes that Canaries starlet Oscar Schwartau will play in the Premier League in the future and hopes that it will be at Carrow Road. The 18-year-old forward, a product of the Brondby academy, was brought to Norwich in the summer by Thorup.
Schwartau has started the last two matches for Norwich, including an impressive 4-1 victory over Watford last weekend. His performances have caught the attention of Thorup, who is confident that Schwartau has a bright future ahead in the top tier of English football.
“He’s going to play in the Premier League one day and I hope it’s with us,” Thorup stated at a press conference. He highlighted that Schwartau's best position is just behind striker Josh Sargent, allowing him to create space and support the USA international.
Thorup also emphasised the importance of Sargent in Norwich’s defensive structure, noting that while strikers typically focus on offensive play, Sargent contributes significantly to the team's press. “He has a very big role. I know when you focus on strikers, you don’t talk that much about their defensive discipline, and he’s fantastic at that. He’s the centre of the first press, he connects the wide players, and he’s very analytic in his approach.”
Looking ahead, Norwich are set to face Derby County on Saturday, with Thorup aiming to secure back-to-back wins to help the team climb the table in the 2024/2025 season.
