Field Champions Squad Depth as Canaries Target Promotion

New signing Sam Field highlights the importance of competition within Norwich City's squad, emphasising its role in their Championship ambitions for the upcoming season.

Field Highlights Norwich's Squad Depth

Competition for places is raising standards across Norwich City's squad, according to new signing Sam Field, who believes it is key to coping with the demands of the Championship.

The Canaries have built a deep squad with plenty of tussles for a starting shirt, with Field among those contesting a midfield berth alongside Kenny McLean, Pelle Mattsson, and Jacob Wright.

Positive Competition Fuels Team Spirit

Clement faces the difficult but welcome task of making some tough selection calls in the weeks ahead as Norwich continues to shape up for the new season and looks to mount a serious push for a Premier League return.

While some may consider that level of competition a negative, Field feels it is a necessity for success in the Championship next season.

"We don't want to admit it, but you've got the shirt every week in, week out and no competition. Your standards can drop a little bit," the experienced midfielder said.

"Competition just drives everyone. What's really good is that there's no bitterness between anyone. Everyone's pushing each other because, I've said it before, if someone comes out, or someone comes in, there's no dropping standards. It's a really strong squad."

Building on Last Season's Momentum

Field is one of only three summer signings for the Canaries, with any further business likely to focus on a left-back, barring departures.

Ensuring continuity has been a deliberate ploy to maintain the momentum found since Clement's arrival in November, which included a run that yielded 44 points from 22 matches, as they rose from the relegation zone to finish ninth.

"That's the main thing, if we can carry on that momentum we had at the end of last season. I think we all know that we had a couple more weeks, what the likelihood would have been," he said.

"We want to build on that as quickly as possible. I haven't been here long, but this is a strong squad. If there are a couple of injuries or whatever, there's strength and depth, and anyone can play. To be a part of that is brilliant."

Field expressed a strong sense of camaraderie within the team, stating, "There's such a good feeling in the group with staff and players, that you can really feel everyone will do it for each other."
