Andrew Crofts linked with Spurs coaching role
Former Norwich City midfielder Andrew Crofts is reportedly set to join Tottenham Hotspur’s backroom staff under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi. According to The Pink'un, Crofts, who played a key role in City’s promotion-winning side under Paul Lambert, is poised for a reunion with De Zerbi ahead of the new Premier League season.
Crofts has built a strong coaching reputation, having worked with De Zerbi previously at Brighton and more recently alongside Craig Bellamy with the Welsh national team. He was part of Fabian Hurzelers’ first-team coaching staff at Brighton before the reported Spurs move.
Crofts reflects on Norwich promotion memories
Speaking exclusively to The Pink'un, Crofts fondly recalled his time at Carrow Road, where he made 70 appearances during the Paul Lambert era. He was a regular in the squad that achieved back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
"I had some incredible moments there. They've stayed with me forever. It feels like yesterday in terms of that success that we had when I was there," Crofts said.
He added: "We had an incredible group of players and a great group of staff that were so hungry to achieve something really special. The lads did it from League One to the Championship, but I'm pretty sure nobody would have expected them to do it again from the Championship to the Premier League - but we did."
Reflecting on Lambert’s influence, Crofts said: "Paul Lambert made us aware of that from day one. He spoke about it numerous times and said to us on day one of pre-season that we were going to do it again. Being a new signing, I thought 'wow, that's a big statement'. I thought maybe staying up or a top-half finish would have been an achievement, but he could see what he had assembled and the hunger and quality he had in that team."
Spurs prepare for Premier League bounce back
Tottenham are signalling intent to improve on last season’s narrow escape from relegation with significant summer signings. The club has secured Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, aiming to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Crofts’ arrival would add to Roberto De Zerbi’s coaching team as Spurs look to build a more competitive side. His experience working with De Zerbi at Brighton and his coaching credentials with the Welsh national team make him a valuable addition.
